Lake Hartwell is a man-made reservoir bordering Georgia and South Carolina. It’s one of the largest recreation lakes in the Southeastern United States, created by the construction of the Hartwell Dam on the Savannah River. Construction began in 1955 and was completed in 1962. The lake was named after Revolutionary War hero Nancy Hart.
